Literacy and numeracy are important because they form the basis of our learning. They are required to learn other skills, as well as for participation in everyday life. Literacy and numeracy skills underpin workforce participation, productivity and the broader economy, and can also impact on social and health outcomes.
In Uganda the quality of Education and access to education has been hindered by insufficient financing, delayed fund flows to schools, the challenges in education governance systems, possession of Numeracy and Literacy Skills is still low. ACFP has continued to champion education initiatives in the region. Currently ACFP supports atotal of 10 government aided s schools (Gulu PTC, Pageya, Layamo, Kitgum Matidi, Patongo, Modegee, Patongo Akwee, Panykworo, St. Martín and Lukodi Primary schools.
For the current ASP running 2023-2028, ACFP has focused on the following interventions targeting children, education stakeholders as well as educators.
- Provision of school kits, learning materials to children in-need.
- Development of school violence prevention mechanism to improve on safe learning environment and school retention.
- Provision of child-friendly teaching and learning materials to schools
- Capacity building for school association members (students, parents, teachers) to advocate for school improvements.
- Extra-curricular school and community clubs for youth (teen corners, youth club, voice now, communal councils etc).
- School infrastructure improvement project
As part of education expected outcomes ACFP has adopted a lot of approaches of delivery education services to children in region this include Teacher capacity support, pupils based approach of peer-peer education initiatives that emphasis on literacy and numeracy activities for children.
