Born of Pagwa Wilela Village, Ibakara Parish in Kitgum district to Nancy and Denish as his biological parents, Elisha’s remarkable journey of healthy living started two years’ ago to be exact around 13/6/2022, at the time Elisha was among the four children identified malnourished through Acholi child and Family Programme health program of Nutritional Assessment and counselling and Nutrition education. Elisha like other children identified at community, weighted only 10kgs at the age of 4 years, he was classified as severely malnourished at this stage he had experienced low energy intake, weight loss, loss of subcutaneous fat, loss of muscle mass, fluid accumulation, decreased hand grip strength and he looked too old for his age.

As part of our health programs, Elisha’s family like others in the community were supported to with knowledge in nutrition, routine monitoring visits among others through the village health teams (VHTs). Apart from direct support in terms of food, the family was supported to establish kitchen garden of vegetables and other nutritious foods for the family uptake on daily basis.

Through the various health programs at community, Elisha’s life has drastically improved and his parents have embraced these initiatives to improve on the wellbeing of all household members “…..we want to be role model parents in our community, our family challenge gave us an opportunity to learn and acquire knowledge, we shall as a family champion issues of nutrition for the wellbeing of children in our society…” Said Nancy the mother of Elisha
